BMW SS 1000rr - a first look at the beast

BMW is really famous for their cars. The German giants have already planted their root deep in the Indian automobile market. What many people did not know much is that BMW produced bikes for the global market. Recently, with the entire sports bike arriving in India, it was essential and inevitable that Beemer brought their fair share in the segment.
Even in the global market BMW bikes were known for their touring capability. Maybe that is the reason why they concentrated mainly on the touring bike segment. Recently Beemer entered the segment of sports bike and they named it SS 1000 RR. BMW was highly criticised for their 19th century inspired kind of design. Eventually, the SS came with a whole new look and design. I have to admit BMW do have a very different design concept when it comes to bikes. And when I drove it, I fell in love with the bike instantly. This is the best bike ever by BMW (yet). With such high riding quality it sure looks like this bike will win many hearts.

As I said earlier, the bike’s design is a little too different from other sports bike. However, the bikes looks and design impressed me. The bike looked attractive enough and the design was quite appealing for me. Having said that, I have to admit that the design is not liked by many (I am not one of the many I guess). The headlamps have a low beam unit and a high beam unit, that is adds nice touch to the whole look of the bike (very futuristic to look at too). It meets only the functional needs of the rider. The bike has a very simple analogue rev meter with a small display that shows the speed you are going in, the gear that you are currently in, the lap times (it is great to have a stop watch when you are testing your ability) and also engine settings. SS 1000RR also has very compact tank that has black portions that contrasts the design of the bike. The rear is very sharp and gives a feel of a vampire’s tooth. Even though the design is a bit different from the ordinary, this bike cannot be called a not good looking bike. It is attractive in its own way and clearly impressed my eyes.

This bike has a 999 cc engine that produces a maximum power of 193 bhp at whooping 13000 rpm. It produces torque of about 11.4 kgm at 9750 rpm. The bike also comes with a new feature that allows you to select different modes of ride. The four different modes are Rain mode, Sports mode, Race mode and Slick mode. The slick mode and race mode are reserved for race track and in this mode the bike is in its fierce mood. It shoots forward like a bullet and really delivers its maximum power of 193 horses. In the rain mode it’s a completely new story. The bike becomes soft and the throttle response is really smooth throughout the ride. In this mode the bike produces much low power of about 150 horses. The six speed transmission is really nice and is smooth. It ensures quick and efficient shifting. The only problem I had with the gearbox was finding the neutral gear.  It is tad little difficult to put it in neuter. The optional high performance gearshift assistance helps us to shift up with the throttle fully open and without applying any clutch. The engine refinement is really awesome and excellent. The cable operated clutch offers a light action and gives a feel of real power at hand. The seating position is also really comfortable. At slow speeds, the bike feels easy and hassle free to steer. The whole bike feels slim and light the instant you climb aboard on the bike. The suspension of the bike is also good. At the front it gets a 46 mm upside down front forks and the rear gets conventional double sides swing arm with a progressive monoshock. The power to weight ratio is 934 hp per tonne. The total weight of the bike with ABS is 206.5 kg. The bike has a 17 inch wheels with ten spoke alloys. The tire at the front is 120x70x17 and at the rear is 190x55x17. The brake up front is a 320 mm disc and at the rear is a 220 mm disc. The bike comes equipped with ABS too. On the whole, the ride of the bike is as awesome it can get. This is one of the best bikes I have ever ridden. I can guarantee everyone will be impressed with this bike after a ride.

The whole new bike from the Beemer is a real hit and worth buying. The SS 1000RR is direct and highly agile. The bike is impressive because of its hyper performance and track worthy handling. The bike despite being a very powerful machine is really easy to use and the cutting edge technology makes it a true Beemer. Like any other BMW around the world, this one is also a real driving machine and takes you ecstasy of driving pleasure.
